Masonic Social Events

Our brethren, their friends and family enjoy a happy social life sharing time together at the functions arranged by the Marquis of Granby Lodge as well as receiving invitations to the social evenings arranged by other lodges that meet at Durham Masonic Hall and elsewhere.

These functions usually include great music, dancing, good food and fundraising for charity - all in a very happy atmosphere.

For some events the dress code is 'smart casual', other times it will be a 'black tie' function - giving our Wives and partners an opportunity to dress up to the nines.

The Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys is a charity and, along with three other national Charities, the RMTGB has been operating separately under various names since the early 18th Century. All four now come under the banner of the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF).

Funded by Freemasons the RMTGB aims to relieve poverty and advance education for children and young people.

In addition to their main grant-making work they also support young people with exceptional talents and those who need financial assistance in order to embrace life-changing opportunities.

The RMTGB award grants to both national and local children’s charities and provide support to their separate but subsidiary charity ‘Lifelites’.

The RMTGB mission statement is:

“To relieve poverty and advance the education of children of a Masonic family and, when funds permit, support other children in need.”

In working towards the RMTGB mission they provide a range of support to children and young people:

  • Awarding grants following distress

  • Supporting excellent talent

  • Enabling life-changing opportunities

  • Awarding grants to other charities

  • In-kind support to the charity ‘Lifelites’
